Using our class Wiki page will give me great resources to use in my classroom. After seeing all of the exciting things we could have used makes me wish we could have had this information before student teaching. Especially using the online book site, BookFlix.
Today, we listened and watched a book called, Rosie's Walk. We used this book to reinforced the skills of prepositional phrases. Then, we worked collaboratively to create our own storybook. Using cameras and PowerPoint, we went outside and took our own pictures, using prepositional phrases. This would be a great active to do in the classroom because it works directly with a skill that students need to learn and innovates technology in the lesson. I would definitely use this lesson in my classroom. I think the students would always remember what prepositional phrases-- I wish my teacher would have done something like this for me!
This class is so fun, so far! I am very interested in learning more strategies and about more technologies.

I agree, I definitely wish we could have taken this class prior to student teaching. After just three days I have learned so much. I've noticed myself starting to think about activities I did with my students and how I would like to do everything over again, this time using some of the ideas talked about in class to teach the skill. Doing an activity such as the prepositional one we did in class gets all students actively participating and it is going to make a greater impact on their learning. It is much easier to remember what a preposition is if you went around and took pictures "doing" something to an object rather than trying to remember the words you underlined on a worksheet.
ReplyDeleteI also agree. I taught prepositions and prepositional phrases during my student teaching, and I think that an activity like this would have been awesome to use and students probably would have gotten more out of it. Students also had access to BookFlix at that school, and the kids really enjoyed it. Just another activity not related to technology but about teaching prepositions was Preposition Simon Says, which the students also really enjoyed, just fyi. It's pretty much just like Simon Says, but students are doing activities that involve prepositions, such as walking around their desks or over their chairs.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I would like to say congrats on the teaching job! That is awesome! I wish I would have known about this activity before student teaching as well. The kids would have really enjoyed it! I really like your student example as well! Can't believe you guys actually got into the dumpster. That's dedication right there!
